These repairs were done the previous year. Not by us, but by a respected company. If you notice there are bad shakes right next to the repairs that obviously should have been replaced at the same time. For a few dollars more this could have been corrected if the homeowner had been notified. This was the condition of the roof when we got there.
There are 2 holes right under the new shake repairs. While they did a good job hiding the nails, they should have replaced a few more shakes.
First you remove the bad shakes, clean up the nails or staples. Blow the area so you have a clean work area to start inserting new premium shakes and check the roofing felt for holes. Once you have done that install the new shakes, hide the nails and do a professional job.

Normally we would not be working on Christmas eve. We all have families and want to take a bit of time off. The problem was our valued customer had a lot of problems with his roof. And besides being below freezing it was clear outside with no chance of rain. Not knowing how long the good weather would hold out, I decided to go ahead and get the job done. I didn’t want our customer to have problems if we were blessed with 2 months of solid rain. We started about 9am at a frosty 26 degrees and finished the job about 3pm on Christmas Eve.
